Living in Spain – an interview with Nina from Brooklyn

April 17, 2017

What’s up, Chorizophiles?

Today’s article is actually an interview I did about living in Spain with Nina – a friend from Brooklyn, New York.

Nina’s been living in Spain for three years – not nearly as long as my 12 – and so she has a different perspective.

She’s also the one who inspired my article about dating Spanish girls.

It is, as they’re saying these days, an instant classic. (I mean the “dating Spanish girls” article. This interview is pretty good too, though.)

By the way, Nina’s a blogger too. You can check out her teaching blog at Aux in Spain. As far as I know, this is her first time on YouTube.

So here’s the interview:

It starts a couple of minutes in, at the part where we actually start talking about her life different parts of Spain. She’s lived in Linares, Gijón and now Madrid.

Did you know I’m famous on YouTube, by the way?

Well, not me… my handsome and talented alter-ego Mr Daniel. He’s the one who teaches English to half a million people every month.

Mostly, it must be said, because he hasn’t figured out a way to monetize his ramblings about Spanish life. When he does, adiós English grammar.

Anyway, in the conversation, Nina and I talk about living in Madrid and how it compares to New York – apparently there’s more drinking here.

We also talk about dating Spaniards. Men in her case, women in mine.

And of course, we talk about the Spanish concept of time and the inability of many (myself included) to plan more than a few hours ahead.

Here’s Nina and a friend with some really spiffy graffiti in Calle de la Estrella, Madrid.

Next up, a wrap up and a few more photos from this year’s Holy Week celebration in Madrid. It wasn’t bad. I ended up seeing about 6 hours of procession, and got home stuffed with torrijas at 1:30 in the morning.

More Madrid, more Spain

Anything else you’d like to know about living in Spain – or more specifically, Madrid?

I’m here for you, of course.

And I’ve got a lot to say about it.

But your questions help me a lot to go in the right direction.

So hit me up through the contact form.

And while you’re waiting for my next article, check out 32 reasons why I love Spain or the 10 best Spanish foods.

And keep it real out there, kiddies.

Mr Chorizo.

P.S. If you want more photos of Spain, you can also follow me on Instagram. I publish a lot of stuff there. Photos here in Madrid as well as my travels. I also take a lot of candid “street” shots of random people, dogs, architecture and stuff like that. I promise, it will not all be high-def pics of the sandwich I just had. ‘Cause I’m paleo like that… And because eating food is way better than photographing it.

About the Author Daniel

How did I end up in Spain? Why am I still here almost 20 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.
