When in Spain: Interview with Paul Burge

October 4, 2019

Hey everyone!

Just a quick note today.

I’ve recently been interviewed by Paul Burge of the When in Spain podcast.

Paul’s a former BBC journalist who’s now living in Madrid, and in the interview he asks me plenty of questions about the great Madrid vs Barcelona debate.

  • Which city is better for expats?
  • Who’s friendlier: Madrileños or Barcelonians?
  • Do you need to learn Catalan if you’re living in Barcelona?
  • Who’s got better food?
  • And much more!

Listen to find out the answers…

You can listen in a number of places: for example on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and more.

Or check out the official website of the podcast here: When in Spain.

(You wouldn’t believe how annoying it is trying to get photos in front of famous BCN monuments. There’s always some huge crowd of people.)

Anyway…

More about living in Madrid and Barcelona

As you know, Madrid vs Barcelona is a big debate here in Spain.

I even wrote an article about it here on the blog: Pros and cons of Madrid and Barcelona.

And also on Lonely Planet, where I talk about living between the two cities.

In the end, I guess it mostly comes down to the beach.

And I’ve gotta admit: now that I’m up in Barcelona most of the time, living near the beach is pretty great.

Anyway, check out the podcast if you’re so inclined – both my interview and other episodes. It’s well-made and always has some interesting Spain-related content.

For now, I’m going to stop flogging the comatose mule of the Madrid vs Barcelona debate, and move on to other (more exciting) topics.

Anything you’d like to see me write about?

Hit me up, right here in the comments.

Have fun,

Daniel AKA Mr Chorizo.

P.S. I’ve got a podcast of my own these days, if you’d like to check it out. It’s about learning English, ’cause that’s what I’m (mostly) known for. You can find links to everything at anchor.fm/aprendemasingles – Enjoy!

P.P.S. Okay, actually, I’ve started a Spain podcast as well. It’s called Spain to Go and it’s on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. And elsewhere – just search your favorite app for the name. Enjoy!

About the Author Daniel

How did I end up in Spain? Why am I still here almost 20 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.

  1. Daniel, I have been to Barcelona several times and actually have a lot of family living in Barcelona. I will be honest enough to tell you I do lo0ve Barcelona and as you, I too love the beach and almost would prefer to live there. But, at the moment, after reading many articles written in QUORA about what is happening in Cataluna and the intense desire of most Catalanes to actually separate themselves from the rest of Spain, I think I would live in Madrid. I do love Madrid
