Lobster power struggles

October 1, 2010

Yesterday I had dinner at El Escarpín, between Sol and Ópera.

I highly recommend it. The barmaid is friendly and gives big tapas to anyone who walks in with a smile. The best thing, though, is the tank of lobsters and crabs. I had more than an hour, over garlic soup, steak, wine and orujo to observe crustacean behavior.

Let me tell you, lobsters are just like people: there are lobster assholes, and then the poor bastards who have to put up with them.

P.S. Ten years after writing this, I heard Jordan Peterson talk about lobster social hierarchies. Guess I was ahead of the curve. Fun!

How did I end up in Spain? Why am I still here almost 20 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.
