Conversation with an EFL Student … English minimal pairs

July 16, 2012

Student: Pardon me for just one minute, Daniel. I’m going to take a shit… (searches for word)

Me: (Incredulous laughter.)

Student: From the printer. (Exit.)

Me: (Incredulous laughter.)

Student: (Enter, paper in hand.) Pardon me, Daniel. Please, let me rephrase that previous sentence. I meant that I needed to go and catch this shit from the printer.

Me: We’ll talk about the verb “catch” later. First, say sheeeeet.

Student: Shiiiiit.

Me: Sheeeeet.

Student: Shiiiiit.

Me: Sheeeeet

Student: Shiiiiit.

Me: Maybe you should just call it a piece of paper.

(End.)

About the Author Daniel

How did I end up in Spain? Why am I still here almost 20 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.
