Madrid Río and some fantastic wooden pigs

A couple of wooden pigs (or maybe they’re boars) on Madrid’s newly-opened riverwalk, Madrid Río. Madrid Río makes me pretty optimistic – new things and good things are still happening despite the crisis.

The place is nice. You can walk for a couple of hours along the banks of the Manzanares, have a beer in one of the bars, or let your kids play on the different things they’ve set up. In summer, there’s a little water park for toddlers.

Madrid Río goes from about Legazpi to Principe Pío, which is an hour and a half or two on foot. It’s a good way to spend an afternoon.

Update: this was a long time ago. See also: walking in El Pardo and Escape to Cercedilla. Or maybe a bit about walking on Diagonal in Barcelona.

How did I end up in Spain? Why am I still here almost 20 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.
