One of my biggest pet peeves with educators is the idea that if you’re going to be a teacher, you need to be as boring and neutral as possible.
I don’t know where people got that idea, but we all know that boredom isn’t conducive to learning. So why should teachers feel like they have to fit some image of a sweater-vest wearing 55-year-old virgin?
Good question…
Well, Frank McCourt knows better.
Here’s a quote from his book Teacher Man…
“If you’re hanging out and this foxy white chick comes along the sidewalk, you can look cool as shit, but if you don’t got the words or you got some kinda crazy foreign accent, she ain’t gonna give you even a look, and you’re home, man, playing with yourself and pissed off because English is a bitch of a language that makes no sense and you’ll never learn it.”
—Frank McCourt, Teacher Man, 2005
I don’t think English is all that hard. Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for today.
Yours,
Mr Chorizo.
